You’ve made a quilt top. Now what?
Before sending your quilt, follow these steps so it is ready for longarm quilting. A little preparation helps your quilt load smoothly, stitch beautifully, and return home safely.
Quick Checklist
✓ Press and measure your quilt top
✓ Trim loose threads and check for stray pins
✓ Mark the top of your quilt with a safety pin
✓ Backing must be 8 inches larger on all sides
✓ Batting must be 8 inches larger on all sides
✓ Submit one form for each quilt
✓ For multiple quilts sent in together, label or package each quilt separately

Press the quilt top. The flatter the seams the better!
Measure the quilt top
Check for and remove any pins used while sewing your quilt top.
Mark the top edge of the quilt top with a safety pin so orientation is clear.
Make sure seams are secure and repair any loose seams if needed. Bonus points if you do a stay stitch or “victory lap” on the quilt top!
Clip loose threads where possible, especially dark threads that may show through lighter fabric after quilting.
If the quilt has directional fabric or blocks that should face a certain way, please include a note in your request form.

If adjustments to the backing are needed before quilting can begin, additional charges may apply.
Make sure the backing is at least 4 inches larger than your quilt top on all four sides.
In other words, your backing should measure at least 8 inches wider and 8 inches longer than your quilt top dimensions.
Example: A 60” x 72” quilt top requires backing at least 68” x 80”.
Mark the top of your backing with a safety pin.
Backing seams should ideally run horizontally and be pressed open for best results.
A 1/2 inch seam allowance is recommended for extra durability.

Batting should be at least 4 inches larger than your quilt top on all four sides. This means batting should measure at least 8 inches wider and 8 inches longer than your quilt top.
Example: A 60” x 72” quilt top requires batting at least 68” x 80”.
You may provide your own batting or purchase batting through Everyday Modern Quilts.
If providing your own batting, please make sure it is clean, free of strong odors, and packaged neatly with your quilt top and backing.

Quilting cost is based on the size of the quilt and the selected quilting density.
Estimated quilting cost can be calculated by:
Width × Length × Quilting Rate
Example:
60 × 72 × $0.022 = $95.04
Additional services such as batting, binding, backing preparation, dense quilting, shipping, or Priority Service requests may affect the final total.
The cost estimator provides a helpful estimate, but final pricing is confirmed after reviewing your quilt request.

Everyday Modern Quilts accepts quilt tops by mail or local drop-off in mid-Michigan.
Shipping and drop-off instructions will be provided after your request form has been reviewed.
Please package quilts carefully to help protect them from any moisture or dirty conditions during the shipping process.

After submitting your quilt request form, I will review your information and contact you with the next steps.
You will receive mailing or local drop-off instructions via the email provided in your request form.
Once your quilt arrives, I’ll confirm that it has been received safely.
During quilting, I may send progress updates or sneak peeks of your quilt on the longarm.
After quilting is complete, your quilt will be carefully inspected, packaged, and prepared for pickup or return shipping.
My goal is for the process to feel clear, comfortable, and enjoyable from start to finish.
